Jessica Li

Although I grew up in Cupertino, California, the birthplace of Apple Computers, I have not called it home for the past few years. I attended Cornell University as an undergraduate where I obtained my B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. While at Cornell, I interned for Cascade Engineering, an injection molding plastics company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I then obtained a Masters of Engineering from M.I.T. My thesis was related to a new process for making scaffolds for soft-tissue implants.

Here at Northwestern, I am working on a new method of making metal foams for bone implant applications. I hope to be able to create metal foams with oriented, elongated pores which mimic the architecture of natural bone in contrast to other metal foams that have equiaxed pores.
